Local computer companies from Indonesia, Toshiba, finally entered into the tablet market with the Android platform and smartphones made by Google. The first product launched is not a tablet, nor a smartphone. Axioo called MID (mobile Internet devices).

"Called the MID because it can function as a tablet once a telephony functions such as smartphones," said David Kartono, VP Product Development & International Sales Toshiba, while introducing the product last week. For Internet access, available options via the WiFi network or GSM/3G/HSDPA.

Indonesia distinctive theme carried as a form of differentiation with competitors of similar products. According to Budi Wahyu Jati, Corporate Director, Axioo International Division, the institute has its own product design team that can do the customization of products that enter the Indonesian market.

Although the specs are not too different from its competitors, Toshiba Picopad comes with a distinctive appearance. Peculiarities include a menu that has been customized with a choice of Indonesian language. In addition, Toshiba also includes a background wallpaper option some typical batik Indonesia.

Android operating system used 2.2 or Froyo and in it was connected to the Android Market which provides more than 100,000 applications for free or paid. This device uses a Qualcomm MSM7227 600 MHz ARM11. 512 MB internal memory capacity of NAND Flash and 512 MB of DDR RAM and supports 32 GB micro SD external memory. In the sales package included 16 GB micro SD memory.

Another feature is the rear camera 3 MP and 0.3 MP front camera. Axioo Picopad use 7-inch touch screen, capacitive type TFT with a resolution of 800 x 480 WVGA. 3200 mAh battery lasting up to 550 hours of standby time.

Axioo Picopad priced under $ 5 million. Besides in Indonesia, this product will also be exported to Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam. The sales package will include a Bluetooth headset to allow users when making a phone call.
